John Almighty | Murakami | 11

"Hey, John, need a chair?" asked the girl, gesturing at the seat across from her.

It took John a second, but he recognized her as his friend Alisa Thompson, formerly an short overweight Physics major and his D&D games' resident cleric. The line 'formerly' was required because she was no longer short or overweight. John couldn't tell with her sitting down, but he guessed she was at least 5'8", where previously she had been closer to 4', and ungenerously half that across. Now, she was waving him over in a babydoll t-shirt and tight jeans, although the shirt had a dark elf on it, so her tastes hadn't changed that much. Her skin had also cleared up, and her short red bowl cut had become shoulder length curls. The main thing that hadn't changed was her face, which was quite recognizable despite the change in proportions. "It looks like that's one wish that really helped out a friend," John thought, remembering how hard she had always struggled to lose weight.

"So how does it feel to be riding free?" she asked as John sat down. She offered him a fork, but John waived her off. "You've been working so hard to get that scholarship, and now you got it, so no more complaining about how you're 'a poor college student'. Oh, and no ducking out of tonight's celebration party. Jason and Tiffany made sure to invite everybody."

"When and where is this party? Eli mentioned a celebration, but I conked out before he gave me details," said John, happy to see that the major changes he had pulled on the world didn't appear to have done anything negative to his group of friends, at least if Alisa was any indication. "Actually, I just got up; I slept in a lot."

"No wonder you don't want pasta," she said, her words slightly muffled as she pulled in her forkful. "Mama always said Italian food aint no good as breakfast food. Well, go on, grab something. I'll still be here when you get back," she added, waiving him towards the food service area.

"The party?" he prompted lightly.

"Oh yeah, it's at Melissa's place at 7. Not like we could hold it anywhere else, she's the only one not stuck under the thumb of oppressive dorm rules, after all. Cameron will be around at 6:30 or so to give people rides."

"Ok, I'll be right back," said John, getting up and heading over to the food court...

Anybody else around? Aything happen today, or should we skip right to the party?
