"Hi," he extends his arm in greeting. "i'm Michael."
"Hi" she smiles, "i'm Jeannie."
"Nice meeting you Jeannie."
She smiles up at him. It is painfully obvious she is very nervous talking to a tall black man.
"Your new to the college life arn't you?" he asks.
"Yes," she answers.
"Let's go for a little stroll around city park. It's not to far from the campus. Check out the lake and stuff."
His warm friendly smile works on her way to easily.
"Ok!"
Jeannie wastes no time slamming her trig book shut. Leaving her tea and some money on the table, they both head out and across the lawns to the nearby park.
The park is nearly deserted at this time of the evening. Jeannie and Mike walk along the lake and eventually by sunset end up on the far side of the park. Jeannie is clearly lost.
"Do you need a lift?" Michael offers.
"No... i actually walked here." She looks about nervously. "Wherever here is?"
"Kind of dark to be walking back." Mike steps a little closer. "Never know what could happen in the park. Lot's of things been happening lately."
Her eyes go big as mike continues, "supposed to be a rape gang running around in this area. Targeting mostly college girls."
"Oh my god...." she bites her lip in fear.
"Course, you could always leave the park. The neighborhoods on this side are not that much better."
Jeannin looks around nervously. It is obvious that she never realized the danger she could get herself in just from accepting a strangers offer to go for a walk.
