I head home, glad this is my only class today. On the way, I pick up the textbook for my class, I wouldn't want to appear stupid! I read the first chapter, and then the second, even though it's not due til next week. A few concepts are unclear to me, and I think about them, trying to make sense of it all.
I think about how important it is to me to do well in this class, and then remember what the professor said about his office hours. It's 3 o'clock! If I run, I can catch him before he...does whatever professors do after hours! I throw the textbook into my backpack and
head back to Psych Hall.
Finding 976 is simple enough, the hallways are all connected in a large square, and I find where I'm going after a minute or two. I glance in through the door and see him sitting in the office which is only lit by a brass desk-lamp. is leaning over the desk, engrossed in a book. He suddenly glances up, and his face lights up with a cheerful smile as he sees me standing there.
"Well hello! Can I help you?"
I explain I'm in his 101 class, and he chuckles as he says that he remembers me coming in late. I blush and he quickly reassures me that it's okay, and it happens a lot since his class has a large proportion of freshmen.
We discuss the first two chapters, and he is very helpful in clearing up the confusing ideas presented in them. The conversation flows naturally, and we discuss college life. He gives me some study tips, and advice on living with a roommate. is very comfortable to talk to, and before I know it I'm suggesting we go out together sometime.
He looks regretful, and says that he would be courting disaster to date a student. This professor likes his job, and would be very unhappy to lose it!
I get up to leave, and he smiles again, saying "Come back any time, , my door is always open!!" |
