Joe and I sat down at the dining room table. As she had promised, Joanna had lunch all set and ready for us. There were two turkey-on-whole wheat sandwiches at each place setting. She had given me a bottle of beer and an opener. Joe had soda. As Joe and I ate, Joanna stared at us with a smile on her face that said she couldn’t be more pleased with how things had turned out. However, there were still a few things that needed to be said. Joanna spoke first.

“So, how long have ‘things’ been going on between you two?” She got right to the point.

“Since this morning at Nicole’s house. and her broke up today.” Joe said.

“Oh, that’s too bad.” Joanna felt sympathetic.

“Not entirely!” I chimed in as I gave Joe’s hand a squeeze. She gave me a big grin in turn.

“So what do you plan on telling Penny, Joe?” Her mother asked.

“I think we should just tell her the truth. That and I have spent so much time together over the past year that we’ve fallen in love. Unfortunately, we didn’t know until today.” She answered as she leaned in and gave me a kiss.

“Okay, now for the tough question. Do you think she’ll be okay with that? She has very similar feelings for as you do Joe. You have a right to be happy, but you do need to consider her feelings. The longer you wait to tell her Joe, the more it is going to hurt. If you are not too careful, you may end up losing a sister.” Joanna concluded.

“Okay, is she around?” Joe asked.

“She’s in the guest house helping Angel try on her new bikinis.” Joanna informed her.

“Okay, I’ll go talk to her now. I’ll be back in a few minutes. try not to hit on my mother too much.” Joe smirked as she left. I gave her a playful swat on the tush as she pushed in her chair and cleared her spot. She had only eaten one of her sandwiches, but she did have a big breakfast at my house earlier. I grabbed her other sandwich and scarffed it down. Joanna laughed. I could tell she wanted to say something to me through the whole conversation, but she didn’t want Joe to hear it. As I finished my lunch, she began to talk again.

What does Joanna have to say to you?

She talks about a certain family tradition
