"Sorry, but I really have some work to do tonight..." she excused lamely.
Amy was clearly disapointed. "Oh. That's okay. We can hang out some other time..."
"Yea..."
The two remained friends, but it was clear over the following weeks that they were growing apart. They hung out less, spending more time with other friends. Emily had her own cluster of friends, while Amy became almost obsessed with her weight training. She hung out with other athletes at school all the time, and they rarely met with just themselves.
After about a month, Emily was walking home from school when she literally bumped into Amy. It was like hitting a brick wall. She fell on her ass, looking up at the practical mountain of muscle Amy had become. She'd grown taller, but mostly she'd grown out. Her arms and legs were huge, veins popping from her biceps with minor efforts. She'd had to change clothes with her growth, but her new outfits were still tight and revealing. And her belly shirt showed she had abs that looked like they would stop a bullet.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Em!" She reached down and picked her up by the collar, easily hoisting her to her feet.
"It's uh... it's nothing." It was clear that she'd changed physically, but it was still the same Amy inside... right?
