Without a word, you stand up and put your shirt back on.
"Wait! Where are you going?" she says. "Please don't leave!" she looks like she's about to start sobbing as you button up your shirt. She struggles not to break down in front of you and turns away, lowering her head to her hands. Noticing the shards of broken thermometer, she starts to clean up, almost thankful to have something to occupy herself so she can hide her face from you as she starts to cry.
You finish putting your shoes back on and then fling open the door, bumping into Dr. Bensen as you exit the room.
"Whoops!" she says. "Good morning, Mr. . I was just on my way in. Is anything the matter?" She looks into the examination room, and you follow her gaze. You see her young assistant Julie drop the last few pieces of the broken glass into the trash. As Julie sees Andrea, she freezes and looks at the two of you, obviously worried that she's about to be fired.
"What happened, Julie?" Dr. Andrea Bensen asks in a stern tone. Julie stands there, flustered. |
