White Slavery on the Dark Continent | 24ward | 4

Njau and Andre accompany Brooke and Debbie to an orphanage paid for by western aid money. It's in a beautiful modern building, complete with well kept lawns and a brightly colored playground. Miss South Africa meets the friendly staff of the on-site school and pediatric hospital. Everywhere is smiling, happy well-fed children.

Debbie and some local media take pictures as Brooke is taken on a tour of the orphanage and shown its many fine features. In the gymasium, darling children welcome Miss South Africa in accented English and even perform a rendition of the Lamumban national anthem in her honor. Brooke smiles broadly and thanks everyone for their time.

"This is a fine example of what aid money can do for the people of Africa, and it has been my pleasure to visit," she says to the assembly. Polite applause ensues.

All in all it is a very successful afternoon. As Brooke plays with some children for the cameras, a strange man with bad teeth slides up next to Debbie.

"Excuse me, miss?"

"A little busy right now, mate," Debbie snaps dismissively.

But he persists. "There's something you should know, girl," he mutters, a hint of menace in his voice.

Debbie stops snapping photos and looks over her shoulder at him, her expression one of irritation and unease.

What does he say?

          Debbie White, Miss Lumumba?
