That night changed my life. Eventually the men let me go, but the damage had been done. I was pregnant. My strict Christian beliefs wouldn't allow me to get an abortion, so nine months later I gave birth to a little baby boy. He had dark skin and black hair. He didn't look anything like me.
My engagement ended once I admitted to that I had been impregnated by some stranger. My family won't have anything to do with me, and I lost my job.
So now I live in a poor neighborhood of town, on welfare. I was at the shopping mall today with my son, when I noticed a little baby in a stroller that looks identical to mine. I wondered if they were related. Then I saw his mother. She was as white as me. We shared a wordless moment, and decided to sit down for coffee.
I told her what happened to me, and she smiled sadly. I encouraged her to tell me her story...
