Amanda tries to smile bravely at Althea, but she has tears in her eyes. "Oh, I don't know if I can do this," she whispers, her voice wavering.
Amanda came from a very conservative Christian family. Her parents did not approve of nudity, premarital sex or black people. She was overwhelmed by her new world. She so wanted to be brave and confident, but she wasn't. She felt like a phoney.
She looked over at Braxton with curiousity shimmering in her emerald eyes. He smiled indulgently at her.
