It was a hard three hours. Despite numerous mistakes on Misty's part, eventually she got the hang of the short sword to the point where Janno felt confident about letting her anywhere near an enemy.
He wanted to lead into teaching her how to use her scimitar next, but the girl was tired and bruised and insisted on resting, so Janno relented and let her go. Caroline also departed to prepare for the trip, so Janno was left to his own devices. After cleaning himself up, he decided to go down to the inn's tavern and get himself some ale. He could use a reward after taking so much time to practice with a greenhorn, even if it was an attractive greenhorn.
Janno entered the tavern and sat down at the bar, taking in the sights and sounds of the room. It was full of people, though not so much as would be in later. He ordered some ale and took a draught, sighing in satisfaction as it hit the spot. He then reflected on the current composition of his party. All fighters was a bad mix, he knew. They needed some people for support, and a wizard or healer would be a great asset in any case.
He found his eyes drifting around the room, seeing if anyone else in the room seemed to make a good recruit. His eyes first landed on a man with short, clipped blond hair and mail, with the traveling vestments of a cleric of Vadamal on. Janno raised an eyebrow, thinking it strange that a priest of the god of justice would be in such a place. He looked over at the figure sitting next to him, a slender figure in a heavy grey cloak. The figure seemed to exude a feminine air, though Janno couldn't put a finger on exactly why.
Past them, there were a few other prospects, including a dour looking woman sitting alone at a corner table wearing corsair trappings, and a rather loudly, lively tanned man trying to impress women with his expert knife-throwing. Janno tipped back his ale and considered his options. |
