You carefully move to the top of the staircase. You remove your shoes, take a deep breath and begin carefully descending the stairs. You try to step toward the outside of the steps, to avoid any creaking sounds.
When you reach the bottom of the stair, you pause for a moment. The murmering voices can now be heard. You hear your wife giggle and say, "I don't think we should, yet."
Your eyes are adjusting to the dim light, and you move carefully toward a table against the wall. You crouch under the table, where you can see the back of the sofa. You try to position yourself comfortably under the table, but accidentally bump the table leg.
A man's voice says, "Did you hear something?" Why does that voice sound familiar? |
