18 And I Like It | TJChurch | 7

You decide a true friend would risk things to save each other. “Miss Wilson?”, you say, pausing to make sure you get her attention. “Don’t be too hard on Sarah. It’s as much my fault as it is hers.”

“I disagree, Mr. ,” she says. “I actually think it’s more you than she. Besides that, watching her now, I get the feeling that I will be able to crack her for information now, or six weeks from now. Sarah, this was your test. You may go.”

You expect Sarah to return your favor and stay there, but you are surprised at how fast she stands up and flies out of the room. You stare through the window on the closed room door after she’s gone. “Mr. ,” Miss Wilson calls out, “eyes front! Staring at her is what got you in this trouble in the first place.”

You look to her, and she approaches. “Now, Mr. ,” she says, this time pausing to make sure she has your attention, “it appears you’re being distracted in school. Your... shall we say... other head is doing a lot of your thinking.” Regretfully, you nod.

She walks to the desk in front of the one you're at and sits atop it. “Well, here’s what I need to talk to you about. My contract with the school’s up at the end of this year, and renewal appears dependent on how many people pass my class. So, what I have to say is, let’s make a deal. If I help you with your studying, would it help you concentrate on what you’re supposed to be learning?”

Do you make the deal?
