An Open Mind | Chouken | 6

You arrived at a favoured Chinese eatery. As Britney parked across the road, the thought occurred to you that you may have inadvertently manipulated Britney’s mind again. It seemed too coincidental for Britney to choose this particular place.

You look surprised at Britney. “I thought you hated Chinese food.”

“What do you mean?” Britney asked, an eyebrow raised. “I do like Chinese food.”

“You always ate something else whenever we got it in the past,” you said, “and you always complained that we weren’t thinking of you when we got it.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Shrimp,” Britney answered incredulously and she opened her car door, “but you’ve been acting weird ever since you got out of hospital.” Britney stepped out of the car and looked at you a moment longer. “Stay in the car.” Britney shut the car door before you could answer. She headed into the shop. Holy shit, you thought, that’s why you avoided your older sister most of the time. She could be a bossy bitch.

You sat in the car thinking of ways you could get revenge. Britney came back after a few minutes with a couple plastic bags of takeaway. She looked red in the face.

“What happened?” you asked.

Britney turned to you, giving you an angry face. You laughed. “You’re such an asshole!” The red spot on her forehead, the one you made Britney unknowingly wear, was a little smudged. You could only guess someone in the shop pointed it out and she was embarrassed.

You grinned. “Oh, yeah, that mark on your forehead,” you said, “did you notice it?”

“Fuck! You’re such an asshole!”

You laughed some more, satisfied with this outcome.

It can only get better, right?
