The Briefcase | RicoLouis | 11

Agent Sarah Knight looked over the files as she sat in seat in first class. So many dead and no one knew exactly how, it had to be an imprint. As if that wasn’t enough one of the detectives had been looking for information on Joseph Hunter, which was a red flag in itself. Her first case had been the investigation into the disappearance of Joseph Hunter and Cassandra Young after some of the debris from the yacht washed ashore. She had lost her partner to a pyromaniac with a single lighter. She should have died as well in that house but didn’t. It was also the case that had put her in a division of the government few people knew about. On paper she still worked for the FBI but in reality she worked directly for the department of defense.

She had a bad feeling that another artifact was in play. She looked at her watch. Her plane would be landing any minute now; a junior agent should be waiting for her for her with a car. Her first stop after she ditched the agent would be a small pawn shop. It seemed like a long shot but phone logs showed that someone at the shop had called Ms. Hunter several days back. Agent Knight would bet good money on her hunch that the Imprint had once been at the pawn shop. Afterwards she would have to track down the detective and find out what he knows.

“Okay folks we will be making or landing shortly, please fasten your seatbelts.” Sarah gathered up the fills as she felt the edge of a page slice her skin. She looked at the paper cut which didn’t bleed. The flesh instead closed. She smiled as she put the files away and rubbed the heart shaped pendent under her blouse.
