You try to reach into his mind, but it seems that he is mentally powerful as well. He blocks your attacks, and although you try to worm your way into his mind, it seems that his defenses are quite solid.
You ram into his mind with startling force, and he doesn’t have time to react, with time slowed. But the ram turns out to be useless as his defenses hold. While you are concentrating on the mental aspect of things, a beam of energy is shot at you by the man.
He slowly grimaces in pain as he feels the mental assault.
You fling up a shield at the last moment, and it holds back the beam for a second, but then your shield is overwhelmed. It dissipates with a fizzle, and you hastily put up another, but it too is destroyed. The beam is slowly, but surely, getting closer to you. While you try to move away, the beam follows you, more or less always aimed towards you. Moving backwards is useless too, and you grunt in exertion.
Finally, it reaches you, and you feel a burning sensation as the bolt hits you squarely in the chest. Pain sears through your body, and everything else becomes a red haze. You are distinctly aware that you are still alive- very alive, but you can think of nothing but the beam.
You try to unleash a torrent of fire, but you feel that you cannot concentrate on the fire as another wave of pain rocks through your body. You collapse in agony, and obtain a moment of respite as the beam moves downwards, and then the pain starts again.
Desperately, you try another attack on his mind, but nothing happens as his barriers hold fast. Then, you succumb to the darkness, and you die.
You died. It wasn’t really possible to know that he had mental defenses, but good try nonetheless. |
