You think for a good minute and finally come to the conclusion that walking to Arisa's house would be best. Taking a deep breath, you grip the handle of the pistol and walk ahead. You shudder as you start to feel the cold winter air brush against any exposed skin you have. The neighborhood you were walking was deathly silent, not something you're completely used to. It seemed deserted, but some of the houses had lights on that showed through the windows. You knocked on the first door that met your gaze and waited. You shivered at the door as you waited. No one answered. The lights were on inside, and you think about just barging inside anyway. But if people were in there, that could lead to a problem.
It was then that you remember the announcement on the television telling everyone to board up and not answer their doors.
You sigh. You really regret taking your eyes off of the road for those five seconds. Now you're going to have to walk all the way there without any assistance.
You see a car parked in the driveway, and a thought regarding just stealing it crosses your mind. And you would have, but you have no idea how to hotwire a car. You just walk away from the house, as big clumps of snow begins to fall from the sky again.
As you continue down the streets of the neighborhood, the cold seems to be creeping through you more and more. You're speed-walking to try and keep warm and to get to your destination faster, but it wasn't helping much regarding you keeping warm. Your ears were starting to get numb, and your nose began to run. You know you can't go on for long like this. You scan the area you're in to try and find something that may help you, but you're not exactly sure what to look for.
Just then, you hear a scream off in the distance. You barely heard it at first, but as you stopped and listened carefully, you could hear them, and they were repeatative screams. You knew it was a girl, since the high-pitched outburst almost made you jump out your skin.
Now you have a decision. You can try and follow the sound of the scream and try and save the person from whatever or whoever is causing them trouble, or you can keep to yourself and mind your business to avoid the risk of getting into trouble yourself. |
