Some time later, as Gogo was retouching her make-up and Adam was rezipping, he turned to her and said, "Does 8:30 work for you?"
Gogo blinked, confused. "Sir? I'm not sure what you mean?"
Adam smiled. "I did offer to show you the sights and take you dancing tonight, did I not? I was asking if 8:30 was a good time to pick you up."
Gogo was flabbergasted. "You...you actually want me to go out with you? I thought that was just a pick-up line!"
Adam frowned. "Gogo, dear, do I look like the kind of man who needs to bother with pick-up lines?"
"I'll give you that," Gogo said. "But we already had sex. And you have to know you can have me again any time you want, so why?"
Adam shrugged. "You're my secretary, Gogo; my subordinate. If I simply had sex with you, then I'd feel sleazy, as if I was exploiting you. But if you were my girlfriend, it would be okay."
Gogo nodded, comprehension dawning. "I see. Sure, 8:30 is good. I can't believe you did't have plans for tonight!"
Adam chuckled. "Actually, I was going out with two of my girlfriends, but they won't mind if I reschedule."
Gogo was taken aback. "I wouldn't want to impose. Why don't I just tag along on your existing date. Would that be a problem?"
"I doubt they'd mind. Still, it doesn't hurt to ask. Dial this number."
He rattled off a few digits, and Gogo dutifully made the call. Shortly therafter, a young-sounding female voice came over the line.
"Hello?"
Adam smiled. "Flora, darling, it's Adam. I hate to impose, but I just met a lovely young lady, and I was wondering if it would be okay for me to bring her along on our date tonight."
There was a brief pause, and then Flora responded. "I don't see why not, baby. And I can't see Mom having a problem with it either. Want me to call her and make sure?"
"That would be great, pet," Adam said. "See you tonight." |
