“No thanks,” I said. If I thought there was even a chance of my getting into that dressing room, I would have been all over that. But I know my wife and her sister, and I knew that it was just a tease. “I’ll see you two later.”
I watched the two of them turn and walk away. I continued to stare until I saw them walk into the swim suit store. I then turned my attention back to the watch. I took it out of my pocket, and as I started to walk away I found the “Set” button. I went through all the usual options, setting the time and the date. I pressed another button and discovered the alarm. Another button brought up the stopwatch. This was odd... the stopwatch had more options than a normal stopwatch. Next to one button it said stop/go. Another said slow/med/fast. A third button said range. I pressed the stop/go button, and walked smack into the couple that were walking in front of me.
“I’m so sorry,” I blurted out, but they did not turn around. It was then that I noticed that everything was eerily quiet all of a sudden. Looking around, not a single person was moving. People were frozen mid-stride. A man sat in the food court with half of a hotdog sticking out of his mouth. A group of teenagers stood still, while one of them had just released her keys, tossing them to a friend. The keys were frozen in the air.
“Holy shit,” I said out loud to myself. “What the hell is going on?” I looked down at my watch. It was still blinking. I pressed “Go” and everything started moving. The man chewed his food. The keys flew to the other girl. I pressed “Stop” once again, and again everything froze.
“Oh man,”I thought, “this could be fun.” |
