Moving slowly as not to give yourself away through careless sounds you peer around the edge of the fortification.
You know straight away what the creature is. It's nearly seven foot tall, covered from head to toes in short, dirty, fur. The creature has large pointed ears, a dog-like snout, green eyes and drooling teeth. It's a bugbear. Large, strong but not very intelligent.
The good news is the beast isn't armed. It's not clothed either. A primal bugbear from the mountainside that's probably not seen any action in any mercenary company or bandit group. This doesn't mean it should be underestimated though. It's not armed but its two clawed hand paws are large and dangerous looking. The dick on the beast is as large as you've ever seen - not that you've seen many - and it swings around as the beast slowly lurches forward, snuffling the air.
It's getting closer.
You've not been told much of bugbears. From the way the beast is sniffing the air it seems to be using its nose rather than its eyes in the gloomy passage way. Perhaps you could sneak on, perhaps you could sneak past it and go back the way. Perhaps that's crazy. Perhaps you should hide or run. |
