Bracing for the protests, you prepare yourself to go find out what's wrong with Heather. Charlotte and Ash do in fact protest, but you tell them repeatedly that you're tired, and that you have an entire summer to swim with them.
You find your way into the house, past the kitchen and to the room that you and Heather are sharing. Heather's already in the bed, her face away from the door.
"Heather?" you ask quietly. No response. You swallow, getting a bit nervous as you approach your friend. "Heather?" you say, slightly louder. Heather turns suddenly and looks at you, her eyes a bit red. She furiously wipes them away and looks at you.
"What?" she snaps.
"What's wrong?" you ask softly.
"What's wrong?" Heather's voice reflects disbelief, and you get the strong sense that there has been something she was not telling you on the trip up here. "It might, and this is just a guess, have something to do with the fact that you and Ashlyn did more than the fucking dishes in the kitchen. As a matter of fact, why aren't you out in the lake, making out with her right now. Maybe if you're lucky, you can land the whole lot of them, stud. What do you think is wrong?"
You open your mouth to speak, and are not surprised to find that no noise is forthcoming. Heather looks at you. "What the hell do you look so stupefied for? It's not like I haven't seen a guy after he's blown his load, and it's easy to tell when you've done it, . Listen, I'm tired, and I'm not in the best mood right now."
"Heather," you finally manage. "What are you trying to say?" Heather sits up in bed, looking you in the eye. "I'm saying I'm tired, . Maybe I'll be more inclined to talk about your little sexual adventures in the morning, but right now, I just want to fall asleep. So if you'll stop pestering me, good night."
Heather rolls over, and you are left with a feeling in your gut. |
