�Look out!� she screamed. Or at least she meant to it was more of a whimper and all she got out was �Loo� before David got hit on the back of the head.
Now he has been hit before in his life. He got beat on a few times by his dad, and he had a few fight in school for being too smart, and there was that one time in the bar where he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time but he has never been hit like this. His head rang.
He turned as he fell to the ground and saw two men standing in front of him. One of the men, the shorter of the two, bent over and said almost in a surprised tone that the young lady was still alive. The second man, the much taller man, also bent over but only to punch David in the face. David saw a burst of bright light and then his eyes begin to swell up with tears uncontrollably.
For the first time in David�s life he thought he was going to die. He was going to be killed here on the sidewalk by a man that looked more like an ox then a man for trying to help out a girl he had just tripped over. The thing that kept rolling in his head as the third blow hit was if he would have just been on time none of this would have happened.
David turned his head to the side to spit out the blood that was now pooling in his mouth. That�s when he saw it. It was a plank of wood that was just laying there. On the opposite side of the plank from him were a half dozen nails were sticking out of it. He grabbed the plank and swung it as hard as he could.
Now he had never been that good with sports maybe billiards but was that really a sport. So when he grabbed that thing like a baseball bat and swung it he prayed not to miss. Well his prayer was answered as the plank crack in half against the tall mans head. He saw through the tears that the nails dug into the side off his head. He was ready to run. He was ready to tell the police every thing that happened. He was ready to claim self defense.
What happened next he was just not ready for. The tall man touched the board that was now nailed to his head. �Ya shuddina done dat� he said in a voice that was thick and musky. He began pulling on the plank but couldn�t get it to budge.
He turned to his partner �Carnie I gots a problem.� When the shorter man to see what the problem was. David saw the young woman kick Carnie square in the nuts. A second kick followed that sent the little man into his partner.
She got up quickly and turned to David. The left side of her face was caked in blood and dirt but David was still stunned by her beauty.
�Come on, RUN� she screamed at him.
