'Okay, okay, just think rationally,' you think to yourself. 'She died, that doesn't mean the Death Note did it, that means that it was her time to die. I just happened to write her name about forty seconds before she died. Magic Death Notes don't exist in the real world.'
As you continue to rationalize, the principal comes in, and calls to make an announcement dismissing everyone. As you walk home, Amanda pulls her car up next to you and asks, "You okay?"
"Just shaken up a bit," you respond.
"You!?" she asks in utter disbelief. "Get in, you definitely can't be trusted to go home yourself right now." Accepting her offer, you get in and she drives off. About halfway home, she asks, "So, why are you so shaken up, I mean, you are the Kira supporter and you love those gruesome murder stories." Kira, you hadn't thought about Kira seriously since you were thirteen. Flashing back to the details of the crime on the internet, you realize this Death Note may not be so farfetched.
Kira has always been a hero to you, justice as you define it is Kira. About thirty years ago, someone used an unknown machine, ability, or something to declare war on crime. This person killed the world's most vicious criminals via heart attack, and earned the name Kira, derived from "killer." Kira also set his sights on anyone who stood in the way, and was able to control the cause and time of death. L, the world's greatest at the time, not only stood against Kira, but even learned Kira was located in Japan and also learned that Kira could control the time and cause of death. It was also rumored that Kira killed L, before being caught and killed himself, but between their deaths, Kira had created a world without war and almost did away with vicious criminals. However, Kira was killed before completing his work, and the world plunged further into the darkness than before.
Kira's special weapon and identity were never leaked to anyone outside of the investigation teams pursing Kira, and remain society's greatest mysteries. However, if the Death Note is for real, then Kira's weapon has finally been leaked. You ask Amanda to stop the car so you can get a soda and snack from a mini-mart, but you really want to test the Note. You walk in and find a student at who goes to your school and secretly write in the Death Note:

Hit by a bus
Robert pockets a box of baseball cards from a mini-mart and attempts to just walk out. As he leaves, the security alarm goes off, causing Robert to run to his car, but he dropped his keys somewhere and runs away as fast as he can. Robert, not looking where he's going, runs out into the road and gets hit by a bus after dodging a truck.
When the time limit expires, you figure the Note is worthless since nothing happens; Robert never goes near the baseball cards, and he's already on his way to the exit. Suddenly, the alarm goes off and Robert runs, and, just as you wrote, he dodged a truck and got hit by a bus. Checking by the door, you notice keys, so you pick them up and try to open his car with one, and it works. This seals it in your mind, the Death Note is for real. Robert, delinquent he is, probably already pocketed some baseball cards.
There is omnipotent killing power in your hands right now. With it, you could make trillions, you could get any girl you want, you could even attempt to make the world Kira wanted. |
