"A Life" As A Phantom Thief | Anarchy4all | 3

While the smoke still engulfs the roof, you give silent thanks that you predicted the conversation so perfectly and quickly drop the mannequin parts, spare mask and cloak, and tiny smoke machines you kept in the parachute pack on the ground silently with the tape recorder, creating the illusion the figure before them was simply a dummy. When the pieces are in place, you quickly change into a police uniform and join the crowd of police, with the now empty parachute pack folded and tucked in the seat of your pants. Since they came up in a rush, there's no way they counted how many officers came up, slipping in should be simple.

When the smoke clears, Inspector Dean is the first to notice the setup, and calls out, "SHIT, IT WAS A DISTRACTION!" She pulls out her walkie talkie and shouts into it, "THIS IS INSPECTOR DEAN, ALL UNITS REPORT BACK TO THE MUSEUM! ALL OF MY OFFICERS, RUSH THE MUSEUM, MAKE SURE TO SECURE THE WENDIGO AND THEN SEARCH FOR . KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR TELL-TALE SIGNS OF HIS INTRUSION! MOVE IT!"

Before she had even given the orders, you acted like an officer who was on top of everything; you had started near the front of the pack, the best place to see the "mannequin" fall apart, and had quickly made your way through the crowd, towards the door, predicting your commanding officer's orders. As a result, you were able to get through the tiny door before the rest of the officers began reenacting the Three Stooges. Although most were still stuck on the roof, two others were able to get out before the mess.

You quickly get out of the hotel, and run towards the museum, your speed putting you at the front door before the other two have even stepped off the sidewalk. You call back to the other two, "One of you go in the front, I'll go around to the left, the other goes to the right. We both go in the back unless one of us finds a forced entrance on the way." The two comply, and you go around without being followed, and you chose to go left for two very good reasons. The first is that takes you towards the primary power cables, which need to go.

You pull out the handgun and attach the silencer you swiped from one of the officers, and shoot out the cables, leaving the museum powerless. You report in on the walkie talkie, "The power lines to the museum are down, and they look like they didn't fall on their own." Someone calls back, "I'm in the museum and it's pitch black. The museum was open today, he must have snuck in at some point and disabled the emergency generators." All you can think is, 'Perfect.'

The second reason you took the left is that it leads to an emergency exit. You break into the exit by hand, and report, "An emergency exit on the west side of the museum has been forced. Be on guard, he may still be in here." As you quickly move through the empty museum towards your target on the tenth floor, you can't help but wonder why you were so scared before, this is easy.

As you approach the Native American Myths wing, you here the same voice call into the walkie talkie, "I'm at the Emerald Wendigo display, it has not been stolen yet, he is definitely still in here." A second voice reports, "Roger that, I just entered the back door and am on my way to the display. I should be there in ten minutes." You sprint down the wing until your face to face with the first officer. When you reach the display, Inspector Dean calls into the radio, "Alright, don't leave that display for a moment, we should be able to send patrol units for the inside of the museum in five minutes and have them in position in twenty.

The window of opportunity for you is open, and the time limit for you to steal the giant statue and get away with it is set.

How do you intend to proceed?
