Cheerleader Destiny | McMartin | 8

You keep your eye on the nerdy, brown haired girl with glasses from your Algebra class as you contemplate how you can make this work. First, you know that your wish has to be directed at one of the cheerleaders in order for it to even have a chance at success.

Wendy! You really like the new Wendy you have created. Especially considering the fact she was now on the hunt to get you laid. She was definitely the nicest of the cheerleaders and since your goal for the moment was to improve the life of the girl from your Algebra class — if only you could remember her name — then it would be best to do so through a cheerleader who already had compassionate intentions.

You turn your gaze toward Wendy, who is now standing over at the Sac Toss booth, and begin to concentrate as you dream up a new scenario for her.

In your mind you see that Wendy was not always the beauty she is today. While being taller than the other girls was a sign of beauty and strength here in high school, that same trait was a matter of complete ridicule back in her grammar school days. At that time, Wendy had been a bit of a freak as she towered over everyone in her class, including most of the boys.

As outcasts will do, Wendy was drawn to the other grammar school misfit, our dear Ms. Algebra. The two had bonded by necessity during first grade and had remained best friends for life, or BFF’s as kids would say, ever since.

Over the course of time Wendy did blossom into the prize she currently is, but despite her gifts she never lost her compassionate side and most certainly never betrayed her friendship with Algebra. Coming from an Asian background, nothing was more important to Wendy than family, and Algebra, despite being from a completely different cultural and ethnic background, had become the sister she never had.

It was Algebra who helped Wendy get through the academic phases of life and, in return, Wendy helped Algebra through the social world. It was mutually beneficial relationship. Wendy succeeded in school because of Algebra’s help and Algebra learned all about social grace, beauty secrets and proper dress through Wendy.

The two spent a tremendous amount of time together. In fact, Wendy’s inspiration to work out and keep her body in the best of shape was directly tied to her friendship with Algebra who joined her pace for pace during every exercise. To this day, the two still worked out together on a regular basis.

While Algebra was definitely Wendy’s best friend, they nevertheless led very different lives. Wendy’s parents were old world Asian and did not believe their daughter should date until she had attained the age of seventeen. Although Wendy was indisputably the most beautiful girl in highschool during her freshman year, it had been incredibly hard on her that she could never go out with anyone. Everyone in the school knew she was off limits and no one ever asked her out.

Perhaps the most crushing experience Wendy had ever experienced was when the quarterback of the football team, a Junior, had asked Algebra out. After their date Wendy had to hear all about the incredible time her best friend had had and how she and her new boyfriend were already making plans for the next.

If anyone were to ask Wendy where she gained the confidence to become Head Cheerleader, she would not hesitate to identify the moment which changed her life as the day during sophomore year when Algebra had told her she had broken up with the football quarterback and was now dating the captain of the school’s soccer team. Although she was overjoyed with Algebra’s continued success with men, she was also growing tired of seeing her best friend have so much fun in life while she was stuck sitting on the sidelines. This had led to both Wendy and Algebra confronting Wendy’s parents and demanding that the restrictions on her social life be lifted so that she could begin to date as well. Her parents had relented, acknowledging that if Algebra could date, there was really no reason for their own daughter not to as well.

The rest, as they say it, was history. Today Wendy was an Asian Beauty and Head of the Cheerleading squad who was the most popular girl in school, while Algebra remained her best friend and continued to enjoy the love of life which continued to inspire Wendy even after all these years.

Having finished this intricate past for Wendy, you relax your mind for a moment.

You turn away from the beautiful cheerleader and look back at the nerdy girl with glasses from your Algebra class whose name you still can’t recall. “Ok, let’s see if this works,” you say to yourself, “If it does, your life is about to change for the better.”

You breathe deeply, close your eyes, and then concentrate on making the story you just dreamt up for Wendy become her new reality.

Does it work? Has life for our Algebra friend changed for the better?

Yes, but not quite how you intended

          It works perfectly
